Starting toward the end of summer of 2012, we plan to ride by bicycle from London in the UK to Cape Town in South Africa. The distance is about 20,000 Kms through about 12 countries depending on final route. The duration of the trip is estimated to take between 9 and 12 months - but we're aiming for 10.
The team currently consists of Dan and Kumi (profiles below), but we hope to add more cyclists to the team. Feel free to contact us and to join us anywhere along the route. You don't need to do the entire trip - join for a day, a week or a month, as long as you pay your own way, and keep more or less to schedule.
After smoking 1 to 2 packs of cigarettes a day for 25 years, Dan eventually managed to quit. This venture is a celebration of well-being and being grateful for all that he has in his life. It can only happen because of the clean lifestyle choices that he has made. Dan wants to inspire and encourage the world to join him. See his profile page for more details. See here for details on how he managed to quit smoking.
Kumi loves cycling, there is no other way to put it. She has worked hard her whole life, and has managed to design her life in such a way that she now has the time to explore the world at her leisure. Kumi is an experienced cyclist and recently returned from a 4 and half month cycle tour from the UK, through Europe to Turkey - on her own! Amongst other achievements, Kumi has also completed the famous Land's End to John o' Groats (LEJOG) route - see here for a wiki article and here to see Kumi's profile page.
This venture is entirely self funded but any donations and sponsorships will be welcomed. Additionally we plan to run various parallel campaigns while on this trip and will be raising money for various charities.
The journey aims to create awareness of the charity being supported, and to create awareness of animals rights, specifically to prevent the barbaric act of skinning animals while still alive to get their fur.
